After growing up in Yuma, Arizona, Austin received his undergraduate degree in history and philosophy from Carroll College in December of 2016. He then graduated from Michigan State University College of Law in May of 2020. During law school, he interned at the Morongo Legal Department of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, as well as the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the Department of Justice in Washington, DC. He also worked in the MSU Indian Law Clinic and completed the Indigenous Law Certificate Program while at Michigan State. He joined the Native American Disability Law Center in the fall of 2020 and looks forward to advocating for and protecting the rights of Native Americans with disabilities in the Four Corners area. Austin is a member of the Samish Indian Nation.
