New Mexico SNAP Work Requirement Changes

New Mexico SNAP work requirement changes took effect in May 2026.

 To help prevent interruptions in benefits, SNAP recipients should:

  • Keep their address and contact information current.
  • Respond promptly to notices from the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA).
  • Report required activity hours during the renewal process.

Activity Hour Requirement

Unless exempt, adult SNAP recipients must complete at least 80 qualifying activity hours each month.

Qualifying activities may include:

Paid or unpaid employment

Volunteering or community service

Job training programs

Workforce development programs

Educational programs
